Steel Train "You and I Undercover"

Happy Friday, everyone!

This song feels Christmas-y to me for some reason. I briefly listened to it...so if I'm wrong, well whatever.

Hope you all have a great holiday season!

The Damned Things - Ironiclast

Here is a band called The Damned Things. This mutt of a band collected members of Fall Out Boy, Anthrax, and Every Time I Die.

It's certainly not going to be everyone's cup of proverbial tea, but I like it and I run things around here. It's been this type of week.

I really love when musicians leave their comfort zone and decide to play with other people to create a new sound. This is really what it means to play music in my opinion...stay hungry, stay curious, stay dangerous. Create something new.

Nothing Says Delicious Chocolaty Goodness like AIDS

Seriously...how was this a good idea? I often question how a lot of ideas get past the people in charge (i.e. this suggestive Yogi the Bear poster), but wow...this one is right up there at the top.

Ayds — an appetite suppressant candy — enjoyed strong sales for much of the 1970s and 80s, until — alas — that other AIDS came along. At that point, the Campana Company decided to change the name to Diet Ayds.

That obviously didn't work.

And here is a bonus commercial!

A Penguin Dilemma

Carbon Leaf - Mary Mac

Happy Friday, everyone! Super pumped that it's closing in the weekend already. It's strangely snowing here in Baltimore, which I am fully unprepared for. I feel like it was Halloween just yesterday, but this year is moving faster than others it appears.

I'm having a super busy day at work so I've been neglecting the blog here, but I'll do my best to change that next week.

As far as music this week, I think it's time for some locals on this page.

Here is Carbon Leaf and a song called "Mary Mac."

Enjoy!

The Flattened Streets of San Francisco

Although I have only been there once, my memories of being in San Francisco have aged quite favorably with time. I long to go back and visit as an adult, especially since as a child I wondered how it would differ had it been flat.

Well it appears I have an answer!

We Were Promised Jetpacks - Quiet Little Voices

Happy Friday, everyone. I can't believe that it's December already. Where did this year go?

Sorry I have been slacking on updating this, but this is the busiest time of the year for my job. Unfortunately.

I came across this band while listening to Pandora. Initially intrigued by their awesome name, I listened more intently. This was a good decision.

Here is We Were Promised Jetpacks and their song, "Quiet Little Voices."

Enjoy and have a great weekend!

Happy Thanksgiving!

I'm not sure about you, but the week before Thanksgiving is a rough week for me at work, busy-wise I mean. In any case, have a great Thanksgiving! I'll update more after the holiday.

Have a great one!

Make Your Own Four Loko!

Upset about the impending Four Loko ban from the FDA? Well, now you can make your own!

This looks even more gross than regular Four Loko.

Another reason not to drink Four Loko? B/c apparently it clouds your judgment and could possibly trick you into thinking you should make some music.

I Be On That / Fuck It All

This Friday's music comes from the mind of my new personal hero, Donald Glover. I'm sure you are more familiar with him by what he's done than who you think he is.

Donald Glover is an actor, writer, comedian, and (lastly) a musician. He's probably best known for his role on Community, which if you're not watching...well, then you are missing out. He has also written for 30 Rock. He started writing for the massively successful show at the ripe age of twenty-five. Excuse me while I look at what I've done with my life up until twenty-five.

Obviously I'm not putting Donald up for Friday's music because he is a great writer, actor, or comedian. He also raps under the name Childish Gambino. At first you may find this amusing, but he wanted a different name so that people wouldn't immediately think he is just joking around and so that he would be taken seriously. How did he arrive at this name? Well, by using the Wu-Tang Clan Name Generator, of course! Go ahead and Wu yourself.

His music is honest, straight-forward...and simply, disgustingly good. I am honestly surprised he is not more popular for his music than he is, but then again...it's not like this is the only thing he is doing.

Here are my two favorite songs that he has on his album Culdesac, which you can download for free from his blog. Note: that's only the Childish Gambino blog. Here is Donald Glover's, which is fantastic.

This first song, "I Be On That," really shows his word play and how underrated of a rapper he is. I can't stop listening to this.

This second song, "Fuck It All," is one of the most honest songs that I have ever heard. I share many of the same concerns that he discusses.

The best thing? He just gives all of his music away for free because he loves doing it.

Assemblyman Felix Ortiz Vomits Four Loko, for the Children

I like Four Loko. Ha, I think it's fun. But, I'm also an adult (most of the time) and able to know when to stop and not to pound a bunch of them and then drive a vehicle.

Via NYMAG:

Despite a very public Four Loko crusade by Senator Chuck Schumer, the FDA, and even the White House, Assemblyman Felix Ortiz just didn't know whether kids really understood that Four Loko is bad for you. So he sacrificed his time, and his body, to prove how damaging it can be. With NBC News cameras recording it for posterity, and a doctor measuring his vital signs every fifteen minutes, Ortiz downed two and a half 23.5-ounce cans of Four Loko in one hour. The results? He was drunk, obviously! His blood pressure and heartbeat increased, and then he threw up (off camera, sadly). So now we know that drinking the equivalent of ten beers in an hour will mess you up. Thanks for the enlightenment, Assemblyman.

Bristol Palin & The Situation Make an Abstinence PSA

Yes, really.

Let alone the fact that The Situation has never found something he wouldn't have sex with, I can't get over Bristol Palin making an abstinence PSA.

Also...could you imagine having to take a drink everytime someone says the word "Situation?"

Maru Loves Boxes

Admittedly, I'm not a cat guy too much. I think they're bitchy. However, I love animals and there are some cats I like when they're affectionate and not crazy.

This video is hilarious. This cat loves nothing else than a box and it doesn't matter the shape or size.

PIXELS

This is a cool short by Patrick Jean about a New York invasion by 8-bits creatures !

There are talks that Adam Sandler is considering making this into a feature film.

Wiz Khalifa and John Butler Trio

Happy Friday, everyone!  This week has dragged some, but then suddenly it's Friday, so I'm not entirely sure what that means.

Anyway.  I'm heading up to New York to hang out with Marques this weekend and I couldn't be more excited.  I love going to NYC and always have a great time.  I'm going up to see a show and then back on Sunday to see another one here in Baltimore.  Then Redskins on Monday Night Football, so it's going to be an action packed three days.

Since I'm going to see two shows, I figured I would put a video up of each act that I'm going to see.  And, they couldn't be two different kinds of shows.

Up first is Wiz Khalifa.  Coming off the success of his mixtape, Kush and Orange Juice, Wiz has been gaining steady buzz and just had his latest song, "Black and Yellow," debut on the Billboard 100.  It is a track that finds Wiz rapping about his hometown Pittsburgh, one of my favorite cities in the country.

Here is his song, "In the Cut."

Up next is a band that I have enjoyed since my sophomore year in college. The John Butler Trio hails from Australia and have been described as an eclectic roots and jam band.  I always hate trying to label an act, especially one as diverse as this, but there ya go.  Once I first heard their song, "Zebra," I was hooked.  I've always wanted to see them play live and I couldn't be more excited than to see them with a lovely girlfriend and two other great friends.

Here is their song, "Ocean," which represents an amazing picture of how talented a band they are.

Australian Rugby Player Caught in the Dog House

I know, I know...terrible pun in the title. However, I really couldn't think of any other way to dive into this ridiculous story.

Joel Monaghan, who plays for the Canberra Raiders in Australia's National Rugby League, the highest level of professional rugby in the world -- a league as popular in parts of Australia as the NFL is in the United States, has recently left the team amidst a lurid sex scandal. Sounds pretty par for the course amongst professional sports, right? Well, partially. Joel here would be akin to Brett Favre if Brett had sent pictures of his dong to a dog. Monaghan was attending an end-of-season house party with up to 30 Canberra players and friends when someone snapped a photo of the star player with a teammate's Labrador dog. The photo was then uploaded to Twitter.

In a statement, Monaghan said, "I accept total responsibility for what happened. It was a moment of madness, and while it was totally out of character, I have to cop the consequences. I'm disappointed that the photo was distributed, but I should never have put myself in that situation. It's something I will have to live with for the rest of my life."

As they tend to do for some reason, not that I'm complaining because they are hilarious, the New Media Animation has produced a video of what allegedly transpired. Similiar to the Tiger Woods video, here is what they feel occured.

Deadspin Update including the infamous picture.

Looking Through the Windshield

I promise this post won't make anyone cry (like yesterday's), unless they have some weird fear of looking through a windshield.

Here are a series of photos called, "In Da Car," by two Russian photographers named Eugene Yarysheva and Ashot Gevorgyan. They are all photos of different situations where the viewer is looking through a windshield in an opposite direction of how one usually does.

Enjoy and, as always, click to enlarge.

Last Minutes with ODEN

I've been sitting on this video for a minute b/c I wasn't sure exactly when or how to put it up. I'm not really even able to watch the entire thing without taking breaks in between because I don't want to cry at work.

Simply put, this is one of the most heart-wrenching and beautiful videos that I have ever had the pleasure to watch. I can't think of a more loving animal than a dog and I can't even grasp the size of the lump that must be crawling out of Jason Wood's throat as he is walking Oden out of the door for the last time. I'm not sure I have the sort of strength to even make a documentary about this. As a dog owner, I find myself thinking about the day when I will have to say goodbye to him...I really can't think of a more difficult period to place myself in ahead of time.

I'm rambling, I know. But, just after having watched this again...I am able to deeply relate to what Jason is going through. Having gone through difficult times, as I'm sure that we all have in this life, there is nothing more comforting than an animal that loves unconditionally. To be able to be so supportive without even knowing so.

Please watch this because it is brilliant, touching, and beautiful.

Abandoned Six Flags - New Orleans

If you thought the amusement park in Zombieland was apocalypse-ready, then you haven't seen anything yet. Welcome to Six Flags New Orleans.

Lying in the waste from a post-Katrina ravage, this Six Flags has been completely abandoned and deemed too expensive to repair. The park is located in Eastern New Orleans, in the Ninth Ward of the city off Interstate 510. The park first opened under the name “Jazzland,” opening in 2000 and operated by Alfa Smartparks before Six Flags took over the park lease in 2002. Apparently, there have been attempts to sell the property, but to not avail as there isn't enough money to restore nor destroy the facility. This Six Flags exists in a state of perpetual tattered limbo.

This video and following photographs were taken in 2010, five years after Katrina tore into New Orleans.

Here is a video tour of what the park looks like today.

Matt and Kim: "Lessons Learned"

Happy err...Monday? Yeah, I was off of work towards the end of last week so I missed updating the music for Friday, for those that check this out.

In any case, Matt and Kim are absolutely my favorite band right now and their new album (Sidewalks) is the best that I have heard from them yet.

Here is their song, Lessons Learned. It is from their last album (Grand), but I love the video and this is probably my favorite song on the album.

Enjoy! And, yes...it is Safe for Work.

(Sorry for being late!)

Halloween and Music

Finally, Halloween is here! Well, the weekend, but I'm not going to be sitting in front of a computer to update this thing. I plan on having a great time and...I'm really not sure people still even read this. But, I digress.

I've put some more aggressive music than normal, but it's Halloween time! It should be creepy, unsettling, etc.

I hope you have a great Halloween, enjoy, have a great time. And, be safe...as you can.

Gingers Have Souls!

Possibly debatable.

I'm sure the Hey Ginger kid would have something to say about this.

Eerie Black and White Photography

Halloween is creeping closer by the day. To stay in line with the ghost photos from yesterday, here are some random black and white photographs that I have come across.

Some of these photos are unnerving. Some are strange. Some are simply, "what the fuck?"

Either way, I can't stop looking at them and attempting to decipher what exactly was going on when these were taken.

Have a look yourself and leave any comments about what you think may or may not be going on.

There is something about a picture in black and white that makes it inherently more surreal. Anyway, on to the photos. As always, click to expand...if you dare!
